Bothan Assault Cruiser
The Bothan Assault Cruiser was a highly controversial starship that was commissioned by the Senate after the treaty between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant was signed, mostly because of the political aspirations of Bothans like Borsk Fey'lya. Little did the New Republic know what an asset these ships would become when the Yuuzhan Vong would begin their invasion of the Galaxy. Construction on the first shipment was finished shortly before the Yuuzhan Vong first invaded at Sernpidal, Helska, and Dubrillion/Destrillion.
The Bothan Assault Cruiser was slightly smaller than a Victory-class Star Destroyer, and possessed leaner and less angular lines. The Bothan Assault Cruiser boasted 20 percent more firepower than a Victory-class Star Destroyer and 150 percent more in terms of shielding and armor. The ship had been designed to take a pounding and still hammer an enemy.
The fighter hangars were amidships and had launch apertures that would let the fighters head up or down, as needed, to get into battle. The dual launch paths also meant recovering fighters after a battle was much faster. Champion, the Bothan Assault Cruiser at Kalarba, was modified so its fighter bays were mounted port and starboard. It is unknown whether more than one Assault Cruiser was constructed with this modification.
The Ralroost was the flagship of Admiral Traest Kre'fey during the majority of the Yuuzhan Vong
invasion. This Bothan Assault Cruiser was the home of Rogue Squadron at the beginning of the war. Throughout the four years of battle, it served at various battles, including Garqi, Ithor, and Ebaq 9.
Forty years after the Battle of Yavin, Bothan Assault Cruisers were part of the fleet of the Confederation, after the Bothan government seceded from the Galactic Alliance in response to the assassination of several key Bothan politicians.
