Homing Beacon #189

The latest Homing Beacon has arrived and today we get to talk about the next major Star Wars event, Celebration Europe.

Producer Rick McCallum at Celebration Europe!

Star Wars producer Rick McCallum will appear at Star Wars Celebration Europe to share with fans from his extensive collection of experiences in the galaxy. Always a favorite with fans, the straightforward McCallum produced the highly successful Star Wars Special Editions and, of course, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. He is currently in pre-production on a live-action Star Wars television series and on a (non-Star Wars) feature film from executive producer George Lucas.

McCallum began his career as a producer on the screen adaptation of Pennies From Heaven, starring Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters. Since 1990, McCallum has worked exclusively with writer/director George Lucas. The two collaborated on the feature film Radioland Murders and the critically acclaimed television series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Don't miss seeing McCallum at Celebration Europe!

Your Band -- The Celebration Europe Cantina Band?

Fans at Celebration Europe are looking to find a band, solo artist or motley crew worthy of being crowned the Celebration Europe Cantina Band by performing the ultimate piece of Star Wars inspired music! If you've got what it takes to write something worthy of performance in Jabba's Palace or the Mos Eisley Cantina, you'll get to play live on stage in front of adoring Star Wars fans at Celebration Europe in London on July 14th 2007.

Your entry could be an original composition influenced by Star Wars, or a parody or a new version of the Star Wars classics! To enter, simply visit www.celebrationeurope.com/cantina for full details on how to submit your entry. In addition to Star Wars glory, the winning band will receive a unique one-of-a-kind bespoke trophy. And what's more, the winning act will appear on the popular starwars.com feature 'Star Wars Rocks' highlighting musicians who have been influenced by the 'Galaxy Far Far Away' (including ASH, Slipknot, Snow Patrol and Nine Inch Nails etc).

The galaxy is waiting to hear your entry! The last date for submissions is Friday the 22nd of June, 2007.

Billy Dee Williams Heads First Celebration Europe Guest List

This is just a start of a long list of celebrities, whose careers span the entire 30 years of the saga. Stars will be signing autographs and appearing on stage and/or in meet and greet sessions. Featured Artist Craig Burt-Painting by Numbers 29

Featured Artist Craig Burt has provided us with a breakdown of one of his paintings that provides us with a look into how the picture came about.

111Purge Scourge progressive.jpg (278302 bytes)
"Purge Scourge"

Here is some of the article created by Craig:

This painting is more recent than most of these. If I remember it was the first done after seeing Revenge of the Sith and I think it might be the last ROTS painting in the vein of these that I've done. These days I spend most of my time doing commissions and have lost most of the urge to do this style Star Wars paintings under my own steam.

1. Is almost the beginning and the end of the process for this one. The elements aren't really based on any actual photo; they are more like the sketches than anything. The painting has a rough sketch like quality because of this. I actually think I might like the sketches more than the painting as a result. Most of the characters in the sketch page made it into the final painting as you can see.

Be sure to read the rest of the article about "Purge Scourge" in the Painting by Numbers section. Thanks Craig for another great walkthrough of how this image came about! Enjoy!

Chewbacca
KOTOBUKIYA's rendering of Han Solo's faithful Wookiee co-pilot, Chewbacca, has proven to be one of the most popular releases in the ARTFX Statue line-up. Standing at a whopping 15" high, the soft vinyl kit of Chewbacca consists of 10 easily assembled pieces, which come packaged in a full color window-box. Chewie is posed sporting his lethal bowcaster, ready to defend himself. The kit offers an interlocking base, perfectly matching that of the Han Solo ARTFX Statue, permitting both figures to be displayed side by side.

Han Solo
Han Solo, Captain of the Millennium Falcon, has been brought to life in this stunning 1:7 scale kit. The Han Solo ARTFX Statue sports the sleeveless black vest seen in Star Wars: EpisodeIV A New Hope and Episode VI Return of the Jedi, and he brandishes his trademark heavy blaster pistol. Standing 13" tall, Han Solo can be displayed alone, or can be connected to the Chewbacca ARTFX Statue to complete the scene!

Yoda
Featuring a well-achieved likeness of the old Jedi Master from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, the Yoda ARTFX Statue is truly a work of art! The superb attention to detail on Yoda's wrinkles and folds all are excellently molded, painted, shaded and highlighted. In fact, his wise old eyes appear to be watching you from anywhere in your home. An old tree stump base, where the master can rest, is included.

These latest statuettes are now available for pre-order.
