AFI's Top 50 Heroes & Villains

Last night the American Film Institute (AFI) revealed the top 50 heroes and top 50 villains of all time in AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Heroes & Villains three-hour television event hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who earned both a hero and villain honor for his portrayal of the "Terminator."

Star Wars was well represented in this list starting with Obi-Wan Kenobi who was ranked as the # 37 hero of all time for his role in Star Wars A New Hope. Next on the list was Han Solo who was ranked as the # 14 hero of all time for his role in Star Wars A New Hope. Then the Granddaddy of them all was Darth Vader who was ranked as the # 3 villain of all time for his role in Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back.

Now before you get too disappointed that these were the only 3 in the top 50 winners of all time, realize that almost no other movie in the list had more than one character at all. Most of the movie character winners were created long before our time. Lots of black and white films and even a silent film. So I would consider this a great feat to have three in the top 50. Congratulations George Lucas!
