1978 Christmas
Holiday Special |
We
are on the cusp of Christmas Eve, so we wanted to remind you of The Star Wars Holiday Special. The Star
Wars Holiday Special aired on CBS during the Christmas Holiday season in 1978
and was the only time it was ever shown. It features Chewie and Han trying to
get back to Kashyyyk for a celebration called Life Day. Many of the main
characters from Star Wars were in it, but one of the most significant events was
the introduction of Boba Fett in a cartoon that Chewie's son is
watching.
It was bad. I mean really bad. We have a small version of the
entire show for you to see. It is not a good copy and will run for about 1 hour
and 35 minutes. It is small for easy downloading and is about 2 inches squared.
You will at least be able to see what this "urban legend" as T'bone would call
it is all about. Don't say I didn't warn you though. This file requires the Real
Player program which can be found here and the video is 17.6 MB. You can find this film and
others in the Movies Section. Enjoy! |

Homing Beacon
#177 |
The latest Homing Beacon has
arrived and today we get to talk about designing the Death Star! Are you the
next Imperial engineering mastermind? Do you have what it takes to wield the
ultimate power in the universe? Do you take pride in your technological terrors?
As part of their promotion for their recently released Star Wars: Lethal
Alliance video game for the PSP and DS, Ubisoft has created a website for
wannabe-Tarkins to develop their own Death Star battle stations.
"We wanted to create something that would be a really enjoyable way for
Star Wars fans to learn about the game. With this tool, users can learn
about the game's storyline and its unique characters while putting a personal
touch on the battle station that has become a cultural icon," says Ashley
Jenkins, Community Manager for Ubisoft.
With a simple web interface, users can spend their enormous Imperial budget
to design a Death Star and its crew complement as they see fit, outfitting it
with specific weapons and features. "We've already seen battle stations the
Empire would be proud to field -- invulnerable and deadly. One of the things
that's really great to see is the Star Wars community members who
continue to improve their designs and compete amongst themselves to build the
ultimate Death Star. Even when Rianna Saren gets her hands on these advanced
designs, the Rebellion will really have to work to find a weakness," says
Jenkins.
Although the grim-faced Empire takes their weapons development seriously, the
Death Star Designer does inject a little humor into the stark gray darkness of
battle station development. For instance, you can add spas and amusement park
rides to your Death Star to keep your crew happy. Jenkins offers some design
tips. "A ferris wheel offers a lovely view, but I think that for pure adrenaline
factor a roller coaster is the must-have personnel facility for discerning
designers everywhere," she says. "Don't leave this galaxy without one!"

30th Anniversary
Battle Packs |
The Official Star Wars Site has announced that the 2007 Star
Wars 3 3/4" 30th Anniversary Battle Packs will soon be here, each brought to
life with well-designed figures and a detailed package backdrop.
Capture of Tantive Princess Leia's antiquated Tantive
IV saw much action during her early involvement with the Rebel Alliance, as she
often bypassed Imperial blockades on "mercy missions" that were as often as not
Rebel supply runs. When the plans for the Death Star were transmitted to the
ship, however, Darth Vader did not hesitate to run it down and capture it, along
with Leia.
There is also the Jedi Training on Dagobah and the Battle of Geonosis Battle
Packs to choose from! Be sure to read all about them and see more pictures of these great
upcoming collectibles! Look for these great Battle Packs in stores in the
Spring. |

Featured Artist
Craig Burt-Painting by Numbers 15 |
Featured Artist Craig Burt has provided us
with a breakdown of one of his paintings that provides us with a look into how
the picture came about. Here is some of the article created by Craig:
"Fighting Few"
This one must be the only Star Wars painting I've done that is
actually in space. A bit of a surprise to me when I think of Star Wars
paintings: because to me Star Wars paintings are space and spaceships; when I
think of childhood, Star Wars and Ralph McQuarrie's paintings.
1. Is the
start of the painting. In the early days of the production of Episode III there
wasn't much info about and I came across these photos of a new toy; a Jedi
Starfighter modified by Anakin. I made the leap that this might be in Episode
III, but of course it wasn't. So I guess this is not so much an Episode III
painting as an Episode II & 1/2, like the toy.
Be sure to read the rest of the article about "Fighting
Few" in the Painting by
Numbers section. Thanks Craig for another great walkthrough of how this
image came about! Enjoy! |
