Star Wars Book
Reviews
The reviews are in! Padawans have been submitting reviews of their
favorite Star Wars books and they're available for viewing.
For example, "I like Cloak of Deception because it is
very interesting to see how Darth Sidious began to create his
influence inside the Senate and how in the end he came into power.
The best part is when you discover the conspiracy behind every move.
I learned that your friends are not always who you imagine." ~

On-Going
~ Padawan of the Week
Each week one StarWarsKids.com Padawan is honored as the
"Padawan of the Week" for their participation in the
Viewscreen communities. The Viewscreens are kid-safe message boards
where participants discuss all aspects of Star Wars. These
Padawans are especially recognized for their interesting Star
Wars questions and comments, their friendly debate skill, and
their welcoming spirit to all new participants. The Padawan Post is
proud to highlight recent honorees,
August 14, from the Padawan Viewscreen: "2 PadméJG2003:
I think that Padmé was sad 'cause she'd seen her love, Anakin,
become evil & she thought that there was no return 4 him &
mourned the fact that he would never b a father 2 her
children."
~ Padawan Aayla
August 7, from the Padawan Viewscreen: "No way! There is
no way to have a good Sith. Sith only think about themselves and
what they want. They don't care about other people. Sith can turn
good but before they turn good they are BAD!"
~ Padawan soara-darra
July 31, from the Saga Talk Viewscreen: "I don't think
Boba was a bad kid. Kids learn almost everything from their parents
and Boba grew up around Jango's morals (and from what I hear Jango
had a bad childhood) so that's what he became."
~ Padawan Siri Meetro0

Do you collect the
toys... |
This report comes from the Official
Star Wars Site!
Answered by: Ryan Church
Do
you collect the toys of the concepts you've designed?
Yes, that's a very cool part that happens after the
movie comes out, to see the toys and video games that use those
designs and allows them to exist a little more. As a designer
there's nothing quite like holding a model of your design. It's very
cool.

Star Wars Galaxies
Reaches 275,000 |
LucasArts has
announced today that Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided
has surpassed 275,000 registered users. Releasing on June 26th 2003,
An Empire Divided has quickly become the second largest MMO in the
U.S, in terms of registered users, and is the fastest growing MMO
role-playing game (RPG) to date.
"Almost immediately we were seeing thousands of players
interacting simultaneously, building communities and creating
in-game events like player weddings, store openings and many other
inventive activities," said Simon Jeffery, president of
LucasArts. "We'll soon be introducing new features and content
that will enhance the experience for existing players as well as
casual gamers or Star Wars fans who might be new to the MMO
genre. The best is yet to come!"
"After three years of intense development and high
anticipation, we felt that we had an amazing game on our hands, but
you're never sure of your success until you get the ultimate
validation from the players," said John Smedley, president of
Sony Online Entertainment. "Sony Online and LucasArts have been
very successful in communicating with the game's very active fan
base and incorporating their feedback to continue improving the
experience."
The Star Wars Galaxies development team continues to work
on a variety of new content and features such as player-owned ground
vehicles, player mounts and player cities, along with substantial
new content to be introduced in the coming months.
In Star Wars Galaxies, for the first time thousands of
players can live the Star Wars saga and become immersed in
the classic Star Wars universe simultaneously. Players can
interact with characters from classic Star Wars including
Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo and many other favorites on
10 different planets/environments in the largest Star Wars
game in history.

Episode III Action |
TheForce.net
has another cool spy report talking about a little
"action" from Episode III. Spoilers
- Highlight
to read:
Early on us members were told that we would help visualize Anakin
progressing to how we know him from the Classic Trilogy. By that I
understood he would be closely resemble the mechanical Darth Vader
we all know and love. He'll lose more of himself and become more
and more machine. It is true - I'll tell you how he does that in
one way tonight.
Here is what they had
planned at the stage of involvement where I was at. Anakin loses his
right leg after the fight - and yes, Anakin and Obi-Wan do battle it
out in the lava environment we've dreamed about since the early
days. More as I dare.
It looks like Star Wars lore is about to come full circle! Now we
just would like to know exactly how this is going to happen. I guess
we will have to wait a little longer for the answer.

Hyperspace Chat Tonight |
The Official Star
Wars Site has announced a new online chat for tonight. George
Lucas has long asserted that Star Wars movies are period
pictures, and the incredibly detailed and beautiful costumes of
Episodes I, II and III have made that a striking reality. These
costumes are the work of Trisha Biggar, Costume Designer for the
prequel trilogy. She has freed up time in her busy schedule for an
online chat with Hyperspace members this week.
Trisha Biggar is scheduled to be online on Wednesday, August 27
at 5 p.m. US Pacific time (or 8 p.m. US Eastern, or 10 a.m.
Thursday, August 28, Sydney time). These chats are held in the
Online Chats and Schedule Forum, accessible only by Hyperspace
members.
Please be aware that the demands of film production may result in
last minute schedule changes, and that although hundreds of
questions are submitted, not all can be answered.

A Good Question I Guess |
Mika sent in an e-mail informing me of some great news! Many of you
may remember that Rick McCallum answered a question of mine during
his first chat to the Hyperspace fans. It turns out that it is a
very important piece of spoiler information of things we will see in
the opening moments of Episode III. Not only did that question get
answered during the chat, but it has now been featured in the Homing
Beacon newsletter, and now on page 20 of the latest Star Wars
Insider magazine! You can see the original question and answer here
if you haven't already heard. Possible spoilers, so beware! Thanks
for the heads up Mika! I just had to go look it up!

Is ILM able to use
any... |
This report comes from the Official
Star Wars Site!
Answered by: Dan Gregoire
Is
ILM able to use any of the digital models and animation that
animatics create? Or vice-versa? Or do you each develop from
scratch?
Because we are not creating a final product our
resources are not appropriate for the final shots. That being said
ILM has used our Maya projects for reference and for some spaceship
and camera animation. They do edit the animation to varying degrees
but having our projects does save them time in the end.

Another Original Trilogy
Character? |
TheForce.net
has a spy report that claims we will definitely see another Original
Trilogy character in Episode III. Who is it? Spoilers
- Highlight
to read:
Fans for some time have continued to speculate on whether or not
Tarkin would appear in Episode III. The Grand Moff would have to be
a younger version and bear a striking resemblance to the veteran
actor - considering the powerful performance that Peter Cushing gave
in the original Star Wars.
Anyhow, here's what I
know: he is in Episode III. I'm not sure who's playing him
and how large the role is - but who cares - I can tell you he's in
100% for sure.
Well there you have it. That is really cool news!
