Homing Beacon
#171 |
The latest Homing Beacon has
arrived and today we get to talk about Halloween! The time of ghosts, goblins,
vampires and werewolves is almost upon us -- and it's also a time for Jedi,
Sith, bounty hunters and Rebels. For Star Wars fans, Halloween is the one
day of the year where you can most easily get away with dressing as your
favorite character at school or work.
It's not too late to get started on your costume. While costuming is a rich
and vibrant part of the Star Wars community, not everyone is cut out to
craft their costumes from scratch. Thankfully, there's a wide variety of Star
Wars costumes available to purchase from StarWarsShop.com, and there's still
time to have it sent to you.
To rope in some last-minute accomplices into your Star Wars costuming
kick, you can print out and wear some of these masks from Revenge
of the Sith.
You're going to need something to haul away all your Halloween loot, but you
don't want anything that will clash with your Star Wars look, so here's
some quick tips on customizing your own goodie bags.
If you're staying at home and handing out candy on Halloween, you can still
join in on the fun. Decorate your porch or windowsill with Star Wars jack
o'lanterns using the patterns found here.
For those really ambitious that want to create a whole Star Wars
haunted house feel, complete with audio terrors, there's a downloadable mp3 for
Hyperspace members that gathers some of the creepiest Star Wars sounds,
including original recordings of General Grievous. The 18-minute sound file can be found here. |

Star Wars
Galaxies-Smugglers and Scoundrels |
LucasArts announces Chapter 3 "Smugglers and Scoundrels" for
Star Wars Galaxies. Cargo, contraband and criminals are the lifeblood of any
good smuggler, and with Chapter 3: Smugglers and Scoundrels, players have even
more ways of plying their trade. Packed with new features, content, skills and
rewards, Chapter 3 offers new and exciting enhancements for every aspiring Han
Solo in the galaxy.
The new Smuggling System will introduce features including:
• A New Underworld Faction – Smugglers can increase their
standing with this faction by completing smuggling missions; while Bounty
Hunters will watch their standing fall as they try to thwart the Smugglers'
efforts.
• New Smuggling Missions – NPCs will be stationed across
the galaxy distributing dangerous yet profitable new missions that deliver
rewards of credits and higher faction rankings. But watch out for the new enemy
NPCs that are out to steal the mission contraband!
• Player versus Player Smuggling Missions – Signing up for
certain more lucrative missions automatically puts the player on the "most
wanted" list of every bounty hunter in the galaxy, but surviving them results in
fabulous rewards of credits, armor and weapons.
• New Smuggling Abilities – "Sly Lie" and "Fast Talk" will
come in handy when attempting to evade capture and hide contraband.
• There is a Broker named Barak in Bestine on Tatooine who can hook
Smugglers up with work (-1049 10 -3538).

Featured Artist
Craig Burt-Painting by Numbers 9 |
Featured Artist Craig Burt has sent in another
breakdown of one of his paintings that provides us with a look into how the
picture came about. Here is some of the article created by Craig:
"Vatman"
This one is relatively simple; it's a rendition of the birth of
Darth Vader.
I don't think I'd seen any versions of the room or
mechanics associated with the birth of Vader back in the days this was done. So,
I went with a similar look to that had been seen in the original trilogy -
Vader's meditation pod.
Be sure to read the rest of the article about "Vatman"
in the Painting by
Numbers section. Thanks Craig for another great walkthrough of how this
image came about! Enjoy! |
