#1 |
Somehow I missed this one, but The Old Republic Official Site
has a Developer Dispatch video titled, "Designing the Dark Side."
Inspired by notorious characters such as Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader,
the Sith Inquisitor and Sith Warrior take different approaches to their rise to
power. The Sith Warrior achieves victory through pure aggression and might while
the Sith Inquisitor excels by cunning ambition and Force
manipulation.
From storyline, to art style, to combat tactics, each
design decision was made to support the dark side themes of power, domination,
and destruction. You can download the Developer
Dispatch 6-Designing the Dark Side video in HD at the size of 160 MB in the Video Game Scenes section. Enjoy!

Star Wars: The
Old Republic: Fatal Alliance |
The Official Star Wars Site has
announced that BioWare and LucasArts -- creators of the hugely popular Star
Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game -- have combined their
storytelling talents and cutting-edge technology for an innovative new massively
multiplayer online role-playing game that allows players to create their own
personal Star Wars adventure 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader.
Now #1 New York Times bestselling author Sean Williams brings the
world of the game to life in his latest novel, Star Wars: The Old Republic:
Fatal Alliance.
Tassaa Bareesh, a matriarch in the Hutt crime cartel, is holding an auction
that's drawing attention from across the galaxy. Representatives of both the
Republic and the Sith Empire are present, along with a Jedi Padawan sent to
investigate, a disenfranchised trooper drummed out of the Republic's elite
Blackstar Squad, and a mysterious Mandalorian with a private agenda. But the
Republic's envoy is not what he seems, the Empire's delegate is a ruthless Sith
apprentice, the Jedi Padawan is determined to do the right thing and terrified
that he can't, the trooper hopes to redeem her reputation, and the Mandalorian
is somehow managing to keep one step ahead of everyone.
None of these guests -- invited or uninvited -- have any intention of
participating in the auction. Instead they plan to steal the prize, which is
locked inside an impregnable vault: two burned chunks of an exploded star
cruiser, one of which may hold the key to the wealth of an entire world.
But the truth about the treasure is dangerous and deadly. And in the end,
Sith and Jedi, Republic and Empire, must do something they've never done before,
something that all the agents of good and evil could never make them do: join
together to stop a powerful threat that could destroy the galaxy....
Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance is a hardcover novel from
Del Rey Books scheduled for release on July 20, 2010. It features cover art and
design by ATTIK. For more information about Star Wars: The Old Republic,
visit the official website

Kenner's 1980
Diecast TIE Bomber |
The Official Star Wars Site has a
great article about Kenner's 1980 Diecast TIE Bomber! Kenner's Diecast TIE
Bomber is one of the rarest vintage Kenner Star Wars toys of all time.
Prior to the premiere for The Empire Strikes Back, Kenner released a
series of small diecast metal vehicles based on Star Wars: A New Hope,
such as the Landspeeder, X-Wing, Y-Wing, and Millennium Falcon. As the
line continued with the release of Empire, new diecast vehicles were
introduced such as Slave I, Cloud Car, and Snowspeeder, along with
updated packaging for the first wave of toys. The TIE Bomber is only seen
briefly in Empire such as in the bombing run on the large asteroid where
the Falcon is hiding from Vader's fleet. The TIE Bomber was introduced as
a late entry among Kenner's diecast ships, just before Kenner decided to cancel
the line entirely.
This toy is one of the things as a collector I regret most not getting. I
remember walking through a drug store and seeing it in the toy section. I think
it was selling at the time for around $5.00 if my memory serves me right. I
asked my Mother if I could get it (with my money) and she said no, that I didn't
need any more Star Wars toys. That was one of the diecast ships that I really
wanted and was the only time I ever saw it. If I could have ever predicted the
value, I would have really pressed hard for it. Alas, it is one of those items I
had in my hands as a youngster and let slip away. Be sure to read the entire article and see some great prototype
pictures!

The Unknown
Regions |
The Official Star Wars Site has an
article about the newly released roleplaying book The Unknown Regions. In
the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, players adopt the role of characters
within the Star Wars galaxy, and together with a gamemaster, cooperate to
tell a challenging and thrilling Star Wars story in the style of the
movies or Expanded Universe works. The rules system uses dice to resolve
character actions, and optional miniatures help visualize the scenes, but
ultimately, the Star Wars Roleplaying Game takes advantage of the
limitless imaginations of its players to create new Star Wars adventures.
The latest book released yesterday, The Unknown Regions, is a 224-page
hardcover book that includes new game elements as well as source material of
interest to any Star Wars fan. It includes new feats, weapons and
equipment for hardy explorers and scouts braving the frontiers of the galaxy,
and advice and guidelines for running exploration-heavy campaigns. For fans of
Star Wars lore, the guide includes information on eight never-before-seen
planets as well as details on the threats lurking within the Unknown Regions.
The authors of the book -- Rodney Thompson, Daniel Wallace and Sterling
Hershey -- recently fielded some questions about The Unknown Regions. A
book about exploring the mysterious frontiers is strangely fitting at this time,
as it marks the last book in the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars library,
and many players are most definitely wondering what the future holds for their
beloved hobby. Be sure to read the entire article with images and answered
questions.

Galactic Escape
Pod Released |
April has been a big month for new
features here at Galactic Voyage. Earlier in the month I released the Galactic News video feature. Today I have
updated the Music section with the great new feature
called the Galactic Escape
Pod! What is the Galactic Escape Pod? It is the new Official Podcast of
Galactic Voyage! You will find a thumbnail image to the podcast on the left menu
of the home page for easy access.
I was contacted by Ryan Zasso and Eric Boggs who will be the hosts of the
weekly show entitled "Fanboy's Guide to the Galaxy." As consumers of Star Wars
podcasts, we understand that your listening time is at a premium. Most podcasts
in my opinion have one fatal flaw... They are all to long! The majority are
between 30 minutes to 1 hour and that is a ton of time to invest when the meat
of those podcasts could have been covered in about 15 minutes.
Our goal for the episodes is to be concise and to the point and not waste a
lot of your time in idol chat. You can read about Ryan and Eric in our Staff page and the official e-mail for the show will be galaxyfanboy@yahoo.com. Please let us know what you think. As
always, you can contact me at jedipower@galactic-voyage.com.
Enjoy!

This video is Star Wars: The Old
Republic Timeline 7 - Peace for the Republic? The centuries immediately
preceding the Great War were thought to be one of the most peaceful eras in
Republic history. As he dives deeper into the galaxy’s history, Master
Gnost-Dural discovers new evidence that suggests the dark influence of the Sith
Empire was seeping into the Republic even then. Gnost-Dural’s latest report
isolates one historical incident which suggests there was a Sith Lord pulling
strings within the ranks of the Jedi decades before the war even
began.
BTC 103 – More than a century before the Sacking of Coruscant, two
Jedi scholars embarked on a journey which became one of most inexplicable
mysteries of its time. Young Jedi Knight Eison Gynt joined his Master in a
mission to investigate the Ancient Sith Temple of Yavin 4. On Yavin, the pair
was attacked by the native Massassi and driven into the Tomb of Naga Sadow where
a powerful force of darkness emerged. Gynt’s Master returned to Coruscant
wounded and half-insane, remorseful that young Eison Gynt had been killed in the
chaos. Years later, however, Gynt returned from Yavin on his own and attacked
his former Master. Gynt was killed and all assumed that he had been tainted by
the darkness on Yavin 4 and returned to Coruscant for revenge. Nonetheless, the
truth, as Master Gnost-Dural has discovered, may have been far more sinister.

Star Wars On
Blu-ray |
Steve Sansweet the Lucasfilm
Director of Fan Relations was on hand at the C2E2 convention in Chicago this
weekend and the second topic for discussion is Star Wars on Blu-Ray. Steve says:
"We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the
Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six
movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We're finding all kinds of scenes
from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that
you know about… there are some real treasures." When will the set come out?
Sansweet says, "We're not ready to announce exactly when it's coming out, but it
won't be in the too distant future.
Now the trouble is all the Star Wars fans that do not have a Blu-ray player
like myself. I am not sure if I will be willing even at this stage to convert to
the new player. Problem number two will be all the great extra content which I
am sure will include cutscenes and other great material. I get the feeling that
there will not be a DVD release of this version, and if there was, it would be
with limited "special" material. It would be just like the release of the first
season of The Clone Wars on Blu-ray and DVD with all the real goodies being on
the Blu-ray. Star Wars on Blu-ray will not be enough to make me
convert. |

Star Wars 3D
Update |
Steve Sansweet the Lucasfilm
Director of Fan Relations was on hand at the C2E2 convention in Chicago this
weekend and had several thing to say. The first we take a look at is Star Wars
in 3D. Steve says: "George has publicly expressed an interest in doing Star Wars
3D. Right now there are a number of different technologies, there's some
criticism out there about some of the movies that have quickly changed to 3D, so
you have to pick the right technology, you have to get it to a cost that makes
sense, and you have to have the time of the director and producer -- George --
to actually go in there, because you can't push a button and stuff goes in one
end and comes out 3D…
"Saying all that, George remains very interested
in doing the Star Wars movies, all six, in 3D, and I hope it will happen someday
in the not too distant future."
I don't look to see these films in 3D for a couple of more years. However,
running all six films at the theaters in 3D would be a great way to kick off
buzz and more interest in the franchise for the Live-Action series release. We
will see. |
