USPS Stamps Available for pre-order

USPS have started taking pre-orders for their 30th Anniversary Commemorative Star Wars Souvenir Sheets, to be released on the 25th of May.

This is a sheet of 15 stamps including Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca, Princess Leia Organa and R2-D2, C-3PO, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Emperor Palpatine, stormtroopers, Boba Fett, the Millennium Falcon, an X-wing starfighter, Queen Padmé Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, and Darth Maul, as drawn by the seasoned Star Wars poster artist, Drew Struzan.

The selvage includes the Star Wars logo and background images of a space battle, including a Star Destroyer, TIE fighters, X-wing starfighters, and the second Death Star as shown under construction in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. The background also includes the lightsaber-wielding form of Darth Vader, whose helmet comprises the largest of the fifteen stamps.

The back of the souvenir sheet includes extensive verso text describing the dramatic roles that each featured character or vehicle plays in the Star Wars Saga.

Be sure to order these to add to your collection as, in my opinion, they are some of the best stamps and will only cost you US$6.15.

Also available are a set of 3 Express Mail FDC Envelopes and a set of 3 Express Mail pre-paid envelopes. These sets includes three first day covers featuring artwork images of Yoda, Darth Vader, and Obi Wan Kenobi as well as the new Marine One Express Mail stamp. These goes on sale on the 6th of May and will cost you US$48.75 for the pre-paid envelopesand US$49.89 for the FDC envelopes.

Fisher, who portrayed the beloved Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, will share memories and anecdotes from her experiences with Star Wars, in stories told as only Carrie Fisher can tell them. Without a script, without an emcee, the evening promises to be a one-of-a-kind conversation, filled with witty and candid insight and memories. Fans of the Star Wars movies, and fans of Fisher's work in the movie, television, and publishing arenas, will not want to miss this opportunity to hear from one of the actors who has been part of the Star Wars story since the beginning.

Tickets to A Conversation With Carrie Fisher are available exclusively to registered pass holders for Celebration IV. Admission to Fisher's appearance is $15 and seating is limited. Tickets are for sale on Gen Con's registration web site: http://registration.gencon.com/celebration/. Hurry! Online registration ends Monday, April 30!

One-Time-Only Preview of Fanboys at Celebration IV!
Fans will meet Fanboys on Friday, May 25, when those attending the Star Wars party of a lifetime will have the chance to be the first to see sequences from the upcoming Weinstein Company's Star Wars-themed comedy.

The one-time-only presentation, only for those attending Celebration IV, is scheduled for Friday afternoon in the Celebration Theater at the Los Angeles Convention Center. A special panel discussion with the movie's creators will follow on Saturday, May 26 on the Concourse Stage.

In Fanboys, director Kyle Newman presents an uproarious comedy that follows a group of young friends on a cross-country quest to break into Skywalker Ranch and see Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace before it is released. It stars Sam Huntington (Superman Returns), Chris Marquette (Joan of Arcadia), Dan Fogler (the upcoming Kung Fu Panda) and Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars).

As a special bonus, Weinstein Co. has also created a unique comic book, that follows the characters' obsessive love of Star Wars, and tells a story of their friendship leading up to the events of the movie. The comic will be offered to fans as a first-opportunity, limited edition at Celebration IV.

In addition to Newman and Perniciaro, several members of the Fanboys cast are expected to attend Celebration IV, pending production schedules for the popular young actors.

"Family Guy" Creator Seth MacFarlane at Celebration IV!
Special Star Wars Episode Sneak Peek

Seth MacFarlane, the creator and executive producer of the Fox hit animated series, "Family Guy," is scheduled to appear at Star Wars Celebration IV. MacFarlane, recognized as one of the youngest artists ever to create a television series, also voices many of the show's most beloved characters, including Peter, Stewie, Quagmire, and Brian.

This fall, MacFarlane and Fox will air a special one hour "Family Guy episode that's a tribute to the Star Wars Saga as unique as only MacFarlane and his talented team of writers can make it. Fans at Celebration IV will be treated to a first look at parts of the episode, called Blue Harvest, and will have the opportunity to hear about it from MacFarlane and members of his team.

MacFarlane and the writers of the show have often riddled "Family Guy" with Star Wars references, but the coming episode will be all about the galaxy far, far away . . . from a "Family Guy" point of view. Joining MacFarlane on stage will be "Family Guy" Executive Producer David A. Goodman, Director Dominic Polcino, and writer Alec Sulkin. The group will talk about their experiences creating the show, as well as the upcoming Star Wars episode. After their onstage interview, it will be the audience's turn to speak up in a special question and answer session.

Don't Forget!: Star Wars Celebrity!
Show off your talent to the world right now by posting a video online! If you're heading to Celebration IV, this is your audition to be part of the talent show. If you can't make the trip, your audition may be shown to the audience in attendance. To begin, register on YouTube.com to set up an account. Then once you have your video clip ready to upload, go to http://youtube.com/my_videos_upload and upload your movie. Though YouTube.com allows videos up to 10 minutes in length, remember that your audition should only be up to 90 seconds long. Leave 'em wanting more and save your energy for the stage in L.A!

When you upload your audition video make sure to write the tag "starwarscelebrity" so we can find it! Last day to post your entry for consideration for the Celebration IV Star Wars Celebrity show is Friday, May 4 at 12 noon PDT.

Possibly a KOTOR MMO in Development?

Electronic Gaming Monthly, computerandvideogames.com, and MCV are reporting a rumor that BioWare has formed a new online team to create a Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic massively multiplayer online game. Knight of the Old Republic 1 & 2 have been know as some of the best Star Wars games to hit the market in recent years both from fans and in generating revenue.

If the rumor holds true, the KOTOR MMO would compete and probably beat the ailing Star Wars Galaxies multiplayer game. The immediate reaction to the news from fans on gaming message boards are less than positive. Many cite their dislike of Star Wars Galaxies and their love for the single player KOTOR franchise.

Star Wars gaming fans feel taking KOTOR to an open online community would ruin the game and many including myself are sure that there would be a monthly fee to play just like in the Galaxies community. That alone was enough to stop current KOTOR fans in their tracks with a resounding NO! We will provide more details as they become available.

More on the 30th Anniversary Star Wars Screening

The Official Star Wars Site has an in-depth article that highlights the 30th Anniversary Star Wars screening that took place this week. Thirty years ago the lights darkened and the curtain parted at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills for the cast and crew screening of Star Wars. On Monday, April 23, 2007, Star Wars -- now properly identified as Episode IV: A New Hope -- screened again, this time to an audience well aware of its historic impact.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences launched part four of its popular "Great To Be Nominated" Star Wars. The 16-week series showcases the Academy Award® nominees for Best Picture that garnered the most Oscar® nominations in a particular year yet did not win the Oscar for Best Picture.

Following the movie, key cast and crew members engaged in an insightful panel discussion about their involvement in the film. Starwars.com has provided several pages of the session, so be sure to read about what was said.

The Making of Star Wars Images

Super Sleuth, Captain Sith Park chimes in again with a Wired Magazine article that includes 20 images from The Making of Star Wars book! With the 30th anniversary of Star Wars fast approaching on May 25, it's time to begin celebrating the galaxy far, far away all over again.

Festivities kick off Monday in Los Angeles, where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen George Lucas' 1977 space opera masterpiece and celebrate the film it dissed for an Oscar. The first Star Wars film garnered 10 nominations and took home six of the golden statues, but lost out to Annie Hall for the year's best picture.

Clearly, Lucas and his fellow filmmakers aren't holding grudges (or minding that the event falls under the Academy's "thanks for playing," Great to Be Nominated series). They'll be at the event, appearing onstage after the screening to talk about the film and its three-decade impact on culture.

Expect Wookiees, Jedis and clones in full force. And watch the Underwire for updates.

Thanks again Captain Sith Park! Have you got news? Then send it in!

Last Night's Star Wars Screening

Captain Sith Park sent in a report about last night's Star Wars screening in L.A. George Lucas slipped in late and split to catch a plane following the 30th Anniversary screening hosted by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Monday night.

Joining him were Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and 11 of Lucas' 22 behind-the-scene collaborators who won or were nominated for Oscars for their contributions to the 1977 classic, made for $13 million back in the day, according to producer Gary Kurtz.

Starboys turned out in force too, lined up around the block for the screening, but left the costumes at home. Lone exception: one woman who showed up wearing Princess Leia earmuffs she bought at Disneyland.

Lucas and company got a standing ovation at the end of the screening, and after a few minutes fielding questions, the maestro left the stage.

In the discussion, producer Gary Kurtz said that the reason they shot Star Wars in the UK was because there were no stages available in Hollywood... they were all being used by TV shows.

See the Wired Magazine Article that also includes images! Thanks for the report Captain Sith Park! Have you got news? Then send it in!

Featured Artist Craig Burt-Painting by Numbers 26

Featured Artist Craig Burt has provided us with a breakdown of one of his paintings that provides us with a look into how the picture came about.

2Mace's Mauling progressive.jpg (188845 bytes)
"Mace's Mauling"

Here is some of the article created by Craig:

I guess this one is appropriate to follow the previous P.B.N in this series because it too has speculative Clone Troopers in it. Well that's what I was going to say but I see that P.B.N 24 is the one with the troopers in it (not the previous P.B.N 25), so I won't. The Clone Troopers lead in design was taken from Guy Lagacé's renderings that was used in #24.

1. This photo of Mace Windu is I think from a scan of a French magazine and is what inspired this painting.

Be sure to read the rest of the article about "Mace's Mauling" in the Painting by Numbers section. Thanks Craig for another great walkthrough of how this image came about! Enjoy!
