George Lucas Talks Clone Wars

Doze sent in a great Clone Wars update from io9. The article features lots of goodies as they discussed The Clone Wars. George stated that:

"Now we're going to find out about Jabba's family and what the clones are like."

"[With Ahsoka] I wanted to develop a character who would help Anakin settle down. He's a wild child after [Attack of the Clones]. He and Obi Wan don't get along. So we wanted to look at how Anakin and Ahsoka become friends, partners, a team. When you become a parent or you become a teacher you have to become more respnsible. I wanted to force Anakin into that role of responsibility, into that juxtaposition."

"Ventress was developed for Attack of the Clones — early on, they thought they'd have Sidious' apprentice after Maul be a woman. Then they abandoned the idea of having Ventress be the next apprentice and used Dooku instead. We thought, "That's a fan fave character [from the Expanded Universe] so let's draw her out." So now you have these two new women coming into the story at the same time — one is Anakin's apprentice and the other is Dooku's. That worked out very nicely for the story we wanted to tell."

Be sure to read the entire interesting article. Thanks for the update Doze!

Millennium Falcon Novel

The Official Star Wars Site has announce the latest upcoming novel. Two years have passed since the defeat of Darth Caedus, the former Jacen Solo. For a grieving Han and Leia, the shadow of their son's tragic downfall still looms large. But Jacen's own bright and loving daughter, Allana, offers a ray of hope for the future as she thrives in her grandparents' care. The eager, inquisitive and Force-strong girl makes a curious discovery aboard her grandfather's beloved spacecraft -- the much-overhauled but ever-dependable Millennium Falcon. The Solo family then finds itself at a new turning point, about to set out on an odyssey into uncertain territory, untold adventure, and unexpected rewards.

Star Wars: Millennium Falcon is by James Luceno, the best-selling author of Dark Lord, Cloak of Deception, The Unifying Force and Labyrinth of Evil. It is due out in hardcover from Del Rey Books in October, 2008. Here's a look at the cover art, with jacket designed by David Stevenson and art by John Van Fleet. Be sure to read more about the new book.

Live-Action Series Update

Doze has provided some information about the new Star Wars Live-Action Series. News.com.au is reporting that Australia remains filmmaker George Lucas' favored location to shoot his much-hyped Star Wars spin-off TV series. The sci-fi TV series will likely be filmed at Sydney's FOX Studios.

"We're looking to shoot it in Australia," Lucas said at his Big Rock ranch, the site for his new animation studio, north of San Francisco. If given the green light, the live action Star Wars offshoot will be one of the most expensive TV productions made in Australia and create hundreds of acting and crew jobs for the local industry.

There was speculation the as yet untitled series would begin shooting next year, but it may be pushed back to 2010. Lucas has employed two Australian scriptwriters to pen the series and continues to work on "getting all of the technology worked out" to make the show.

The 63-year-old director, writer and producer, who revolutionized cinema with 1977's Star Wars, is no stranger to Sydney. He made 2002's Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith at Fox Studios.

"It is going ahead," Lucas confirmed. "We're in the process of writing screenplays right now." "It's going to take a while because it's really hard to do."

The series will not follow the regular Star Wars storylines, instead focusing on the "lower levels of life" of Lucas' Star Wars world.

"It has nothing to do with the Skywalker saga," Lucas said. "None of the Skywalkers or anything." "This is what I call a little footnote to the Skywalker saga." "... It is about the lower levels of life, the lower depths." "They hear about the fact it is no longer a republic and now it's an empire, but they are from a world where none of that really means too much to them."

Thanks for the heads up Doze!
