How Lucasfilm
Continues To Reach New Star Wars Fans |
Marketing Week has an
interesting article about how Lucasfilm Continues To Reach New Star Wars Fans.
It is six years since the last Star Wars film tied up the space saga, but
Lucasfilm continues to reach new fans and stay relevant. Laura Snoad asks its
president of licensing Howard Roffman how the franchise keeps striking back.
Marketing Week (MW): How can you keep the
Star Wars brand relevant to new generations?
Howard Roffman (HR): One of the
strongest elements of the Star Wars property is its timelessness. Parents have
had a very strong motivation to introduce their children to Star Wars through
the films. But we’ve also taken important elements of the Star Was story and
expanded them, for example with [TV series] The Clone Wars.

Darth Maul
Lives! |
Entertainment Weekly and USAToday have both provided articles on Darth Maul's return in
The Clone Wars this season. Last January a Clone Wars arc featuring Nightbrother
of Dathomir Savage Opress teased a hazy image of Maul in a crystal ball. Did
this mean Darth Maul was still alive? Yes! But how, right? He was cut in half.
Darth Sidious did state that “The Dark Side of the Force is the path to many
abilities some consider to be…unnatural.” He kept Anakin alive when he was
burned to a crisp and lost a good portion of his body mass. It is also possible
the lightsaber would have also cauterized Darth Maul's wound.
Dave Filoni supervising director of The Clone Wars stated: “Here, we’re
moving forward with Maul.” He’s more than ten years older than he was in The
Phantom Menace. That’s immensely satisfying, because now nobody knows what’s
going to happen to him. I know, but nobody else does.” "Don’t forget Obi-Wan
Kenobi is still around, so I’m sure Maul wouldn’t be very happy with him.”
Savage Opress plays a major role in the return of his "long-lost brother."
Filoni expects a strong reaction from fans, but he promises he didn't bring back
Darth Maul for a short-lived stunt.
"There's a lot of ground that has not been covered as far
as Darth Maul is concerned, so there's a lot of room to grow with him," Filoni
says. "It's all balanced with, 'Boy, we've gotta make this really good because
this is a really big deal.'"
If you look at the Images below, I think they are going to
take Darth Maul in the same direction as the Expanded Universe comics. Hence the
cropped image of Maul not letting the "cat out of the bag," but notice the
similarities. Maul would have the Grievous like leg system making him strong and
powerful and able to do some "inhumanly" things.
