On Vacation
|
After today, there will not be any
more updates until Tuesday, August 4th. I will be on vacation going to Drum
Corps International (DCI) shows (another one of my passions) and will not be
near a computer. What is DCI you ask? It is like a professional marching band
with bugles, drums, and color guard. I was fortunate enough to have been in a
drum & bugle corps called the Crossmen in 1990. I also taught high school
drumlines for 9 years. Here is a great drum line that I will see this year. I
hope you will join me on the August 4th for more great news and daily videos
here at Galactic Voyage. Take care!

Star Wars
Live-Action Series In Hungary |
Our good friend Atlas from Hungary
sent in word that the Wall Street Journal has posted an article about the future of
the new Star Wars Live-Action TV Series.
Scouting for a location to film a lavish new "Star Wars" live-action
television series, filmmaker George Lucas says the Czech Republic probably won't
get his business.
A few years ago, it might have, thanks to a well-established reputation as
a low-cost, high-quality Central European film production haven. But now
neighboring countries, particularly Hungary, are offering superior tax
incentives along with workers of comparable quality.
"As a producer, I will always go to the country that has the best crew
coupled with the most tax incentives," Mr. Lucas said in an interview conducted
via email.

Star Wars In
Concert |
The Official Star Wars Site has announced that Star Wars:
In Concert, a unique multi-media event featuring music from all six of John
Williams' epic Star Wars scores, begins its worldwide arena tour on
October 1, 2009 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Narrated live by Anthony Daniels (the actor who portrayed C-3PO in all six
films), the production features a full symphony orchestra and choir, accompanied
by specially edited footage from the films displayed on a three-story-tall,
high-definition LED super-screen -- one of the largest ever put on tour. The
live music and film elements are synchronized in order to create a full
multi-media, one-of-kind Star Wars experience. Be sure to read
the entire article. |

Hollywood's
Highest-Paid Men |
Forbes.com has
compiled its list of "Hollywood's Highest-Paid Men" and George Lucas reigns
supreme! The producer/director/writer was smart enough to hold onto the
merchandizing rights to his Star Wars characters way back in 1977 before anyone
knew how those sales would take off. Today he still earns big bucks from toy
company Hasbro, which pays Lucas a sizable royalty on all of the Star Wars toys
it sells, netting Lucas $170 million last year. Be sure to see who else made the list.

Crosscurrent
|
The Official Star Wars Site has announced Crosscurrent.
Coming in January 2010 is the Star Wars novel Crosscurrent, by
Paul Kemp, published by Del Rey Books. Here's a first look at its cover by Dave
Seeley, as well as what the text on the back cover describes...
An ancient Sith ship hurtles into the future carrying a lethal cargo that
could forever destroy Luke Skywalker's hopes for peace.
The Civil War is almost over when Jedi Knight Jaden Korr experiences a Force
vision so intense he must act. Enlisting two salvage jocks and their ship, Jaden
sets out into space. Someone -- or something -- appears to be in distress.
But what Jaden and his crew find confounds them. A five-thousand-year-old
dreadnaught -- bringing with it a full force of Sith and one lone Jedi -- has
inadvertently catapulted eons from the past into the present. The ship's weapons
may not be cutting-edge, but its cargo, a special ore that makes those who use
the dark side nearly invincible, is unsurpassed. The ancient Jedi on board is
determined to destroy the Sith. But for Jaden, even more is at stake: for his
vision has led him to uncover a potentially indestructible threat to everything
the Jedi Order stands for. |
