Wizards of the
Coast Ends Star Wars Agreement |
The Official Star Wars Site has stated that Wizards of the Coast
announced on their website they will not renew their license to produce Star
Wars products for their roleplaying and miniature gaming lines. You can read
their announcement here.
Wizards of the Coast has produced a library of Star Wars game books
since 2001, as well as hundreds of detailed pre-painted plastic miniatures as
part of their official product lines. However, the economic downturn as well as
the growth of online gaming factored into their decision to discontinue new
development, and their license ends in May of this year. There are several
releases still on the horizon from Wizards, such as the Masters of the Force
miniatures set and The Unknown Regions game book due out in April.
Lucas Licensing continues to see miniatures, roleplaying games and card games
as viable and important elements in its Star Wars licensing program, both
in digital form (like the recently launched trading card game within Star
Wars Galaxies), and in physical products like figures, books and cards. Keep
checking StarWars.com for announcements regarding future products in this area
in the coming months. |

Clone Wars
Gambit: Siege |
The Official Star Wars Site has announced that coming this summer
is the second part of the Clone Wars Gambit, a two-book series that
starts next month with Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth, a trade paperback
novel by Karen Miller set to release on February 23 from Del Rey Books. Here's a
look at the description of book two, Clone Wars Gambit: Siege, also by
Miller with cover art by Craig Howell. Those wary of spoilers may want to skip
the synopsis below.
On the Outer Rim, the planet Lanteeb has no strategic value, no political
power, and one enormous problem: it has been invaded by an emboldened Separatist
Alliance. To find out why, Jedi knights Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi have
snuck onto Lanteeb -- and now look oblivion in the eye...
Hiding their lightsabers beneath their dusty disguises, Anakin and Obi-Wan
draw on their Jedi skills to stay one step ahead of Lok Durd's droid army on
Lanteeb. The Jedi know that a captive scientist has given Durd the keys to a
terrifying bioweapon. Durd knows that the Jedi are on his planet. With Yoda
calling on the powers of the Jedi Council, with a new Separatist technology
jamming the Guardians' communications, and a traitor at the heart of the
Republic's government, the wheels of war are turning. But the Separatists have
blockaded Lanteeb. The finishing touches are being put on a weapon to destroy
whole worlds. And it will be up to the two Jedi Knights and their most trusted
comrades to liberate Lanteeb or forever suffer the consequences. |
