Comics For November, December, And Beyond

Star Wars Legacy 18.jpg (68114 bytes)The Official Star Wars Site has provided a look at more Dark Horse Comics for Star Wars fans this Winter. For a thousand generations, the Jedi kept peace and order in the galaxy -- but things don't seem peaceful or orderly for Padawan Zayne Carrick, falsely accused of murder and thrust into the Mandalorian Wars! And here, readers can get the back-story on the scene, 3,963 years before the Battle of Yavin!

In the one-shot Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Handbook, readers can check out illustrated profiles on Zayne and his outlaw friends; Lucien and the Covenant; Squint and the Jedi Crusaders; the Mandalorian invaders; and more!

Written by series writer John Jackson Miller, with illustrations by Brian Ching, Harvey Tolibao, Dustin Weaver, and Michael Atiyeh, the Handbook is perfect for catching up with the series so far -- while offering new information for regular readers, including an incredible cross-section of everyone's favorite junk hauler, The Last Resort, by series artist Dustin Weaver!

The 32-page Handbook is due out on November 7.

Hoping to free their friend Cade Skywalker from the clutches of the Sith, Deliah Blue and Jeriah Syn receive help from a surprising source. And Cade, who was captured by the Sith while trying to free Jedi Hosk Tre'Lyis, discovers that Hosk has found his own path to freedom, via the Force. The good, evil, and those in-between are coming together, and the result is going shake the foundations of the Empire! Plus, the full story of Darth Krayt's origin is revealed!

Star Wars: Legacy #18, the fifth part of the six-part "Dragon" story-arc, is by John Ostrander, Jan Duursema, Dan Parsons, Brad Anderson and Travis Charest. It is due out on November 14.

Fugitive Padawan Zayne Carrick left Taris vowing to catch his murderous Masters before they caught him. Now, he's returned -- only to find the planet under siege by Mandalorian invaders. And there's someone else waiting for him, someone who's about to turn the tables on all his plans!

Nearly alone in a war zone, Zayne is surrounded by enemies. Some want him brought to justice. Others want the bounty on his head. And the Mandalorians just want the whole planet! And when even friends become enemies, he finds himself at the mercy of someone who has no mercy: one of his former Masters!

Building toward the culmination of the year-long "Days/Knights" story arc, the long-awaited return to Taris also includes several familiar faces from the Knights of the Old Republic video games! Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #23 is by John Jackson Miller, Dustin Weaver, Dan Parsons, Michael Atiyeh, and Colin Wilson. This issue is due out on November 28.

Bomo Greenbark and his companions have been imprisoned, enslaved, and tortured, but now Bomo has found a way out. Freedom beckons, but honor demands he take action to free his friends. And action means his captors are about to see a very, very dangerous side of him. Meanwhile, Master K'Kruhk discovers that those under his protection are more in need of it than ever. Bad guys beware!

Evil has had its day, it's time for the forces of good to strike back!

Star Wars: Dark Times #9, part four of the five-part "Parallels" story arc, is due out on November 28 and features the talents of Mick Harrison, Dave Ross and Zach Howard.

Coming in December
Loved by Star Wars fans of all ages, Clone Wars Adventures continues with four more fantastic tales! Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker take a junked speeder on a deadly race through a canyon teeming with bounty hunters, a duty bound clone trooper finds himself the sole defense against an army of droids, a free-spirited young Jedi is tasked with a dangerous mission of greater significance than she realizes, and a peaceful group of farmers find themselves on the frontlines in the fight against the Separatists -- all in this action-packed collection of stories told in the super-popular stripped down stylization of the Cartoon Network micro-series!

Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventure Volume 10 is by Matthew and Shawn Fillbach, Chris Avellone, Jason Hall, Stewart McKenny and Ethen Beavers. It is due out on December 19th.

Coming in January
Each month, Dark Horse Comics bring readers a limited-edition hardcover of the best of Star Wars graphic novels. Available only through Direct Market retail outlets, each volume's print run is limited to initial orders and will not be reprinted.

January sees the release of Volume 11 in the series, collecting the story of Star Wars: Union by Michael A. Stackpole, Robert Teranishi, Chris Chuckry, and Duncan Fegredo. When Luke Skywalker, the New Republic's greatest hero, decides to marry Mara Jade, the woman who was once the Emperor's personal assassin, you can be sure that hands both Imperial and New Republican will be raised to stop the marriage -- at any cost! Starring Han and Leia, Chewbacca and Lando, Union marks a monumental event that links the classic trilogy to the boundless future of the Star Wars galaxy!

This hardcover release is due out January 2.

Nearly 4,000 years before the Death Star, fugitive Padawan Zayne Carrick's quest to clear his name runs afoul of forces beyond his control--forces he and his friends have helped to unleash! Con-artist Gryph sees the Mandalorian Wars as a chance to make a quick credit, but Zayne sees a terrible tragedy on the horizon--one where only an act of self-sacrifice can save the ungrateful Republic! But the real key to the future of the galaxy may lie with none other than Zayne's fellow fugitives, the genius Camper and the beautiful Jarael, who have just fallen prey to the forces they've spent a lifetime running from!

The trade paperback Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Vol 3. Days of Fear, Nights and Anger features the work of John Jackson Miller, Brian Ching, Dustin Weaver, Harvey Tolibao, Michael Atiyeh and Colin Wilson. It collects issues 13-18 of the series. It is dueout January 16.

Star Wars: The Essential Atlas

The Star Wars Blog announces a new Essentials series book. Author Daniel Wallace revealed this week in his blog details about his upcoming book Star Wars: The Essential Atlas (working title), due out in 2008 from Del Rey.

"This book, written by myself and Jason Fry, will be the deepest look Lucasfilm has ever allowed into the geography of our favorite galaxy far, far away," Wallace writes. "There's lots more still to do on this project — and our draft could still undergo heavy rewrites — so take everything with a grain of salt at this early date. But I thought it would be a good idea to address some of the questions that I've been getting."

Q: Is this a star charts book, or is it a new version of The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons?
A: Yes! The Atlas will combine extensive star charts/maps with planet profiles like the ones in the original EGPM (though almost certainly laid out differently).

Q: Will the book be light years better than the original EGPM?
A: Yes, lightyears. I can say that because I wrote the original, and realize that I spent way too much time recapping plots instead of actually describing planets. Hey, it was my first book.

Q: So what's in it already?
A: We're still at first-draft stage, so full caveats, but in broad strokes the book is equal parts cosmology, planet profiles, political structure, colonization, history, the sweep and scale of wars, and bulleted lists presenting miscellaneous items of kewlness. I mean, I like Star Trek: Star Charts, but it's just charts. By contrast, the Atlas will hopefully feel closer in spirit to classic, meaty RPG resources like Platt's Starport Guide or Han Solo and the Corporate Sector Sourcebook.

I really love the Essentials series of books and i am looking forward to hearing more about this one. Look for more information as we hear about it.

Legacy of the Force-Revelation

Legacy of the Force-Revelation.jpg (55078 bytes)The Official Star Wars Site has announced the next instalment of the Legacy of the Force book series. Darth Caedus dominates the cover of Revelation, the penultimate book of the Legacy of the Force series due out next year. It's still several books away, so they don't have the text that appears on the back cover just yet, given the number of events that have still yet to unfold in the series. This book, written by Karen Traviss, is due out in paperback from Del Rey Books in February 2008. Its cover art is by Jason Felix.
