The Force Will Be Unleashed on September 16

LucasArts today announced that its highly anticipated videogame Star Wars®: The Force Unleashed™ will be released on September 16, 2008 in the United States, September 17 in Southeast Asia and Australia, and September 19 in Europe.

An entirely new chapter in the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game's expansive story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist Vader in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

"Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is one of the most ambitious projects LucasArts has ever launched. The combination of a great new Star Wars story with revolutionary new technology and game play means more fun than you've ever had in the Star Wars universe," said Peter Hirschmann, Vice-President of Product Development, LucasArts. "We can't wait until gamers get their hands on it this September."

Spike TV's Star Wars presentation marks the first time that all six movies will be presented together on a basic cable network.

Reflecting its status as an exciting new part of the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be featured throughout Spike TV's weekend events. New LucasArts President Announced

Gamasutra has an article about the new president for LucasArts.

Publisher/developer LucasArts (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed), the video game division of Lucasfilm, has announced the appointment of Electronic Arts and Disney veteran Darrell Rodriguez as president beginning in mid-April.

Rodriguez is currently Electronic Arts LA's chief operating officer, where he oversees the studio's overall operations, product development and strategic growth for the studio.

The company calls him "an avid gamer," and notes he has worked on such titles as SSX On Tour, Medal of Honor: Airborne, The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.

Prior to his work with EA, Rodriguez has also held product development and production roles at EarthLink, Walt Disney Imagineering and the Walt Disney Internet Group.

Rodriguez's appointment follows the recent departure of longtime head Jim Ward, who stepped down in February after nearly 4 years heading the company.

Said Rodriguez, "I couldn’t be more excited to join such a dynamic and innovative company as LucasArts. The people are world class and the IP is the best in the business. To be able to work with such cultural icons as Star Wars and Indiana Jones and develop new franchises is like a dream come true.”

Randy Stradley Interview

Our friends from Fan Force Portugal sent in information about their new interview with Dark Horse Comics Editor Randy Stradley! Stradley's answers give us not only a deep insight into his job and Dark Horse Comics, but also tips for aspiring artists and writers. However, the best of all is the confirmation of two new comic series about Clone Wars, which will temporarily take the place of Dark Times and Rebellion.

"(...)The plan is to tell an exciting story within the twelve issues of "Vector," but to also have the events that happen in each chapter directly affect the subsequent events in that series. After issue #28, you'll see how the events in "Vector" almost immediately spur new action in Knights of the Old Republic. Zayne Carrick will emerge from the "Vector" story a changed man, with a renewed determination to carry his fight to clear his name to the Masters who framed him.

We have similar plans for all of the series, though something has come up which will put some of the "new directions" temporarily on hold. See, we knew that the new Clone Wars TV show was likely to debut in the Fall of this year. But we didn't know until quite recently that there was going to be a theatrical film to launch the series, or that Clone Wars would receive quite the promotional push that it is. This turn of events has required us to retool some of our plans. Instead of continuing the Dark Times and Rebellion series immediately following their "Vector" issues, those series are going on hiatus so that we can roll out a new Clone Wars comics series -- and a new Clone Wars digest-sized series (similar to the Clone Wars Adventures books, but with full-length stories in each volume).

Dark Times and Rebellion will probably return early next year. In the meantime, KotOR and Legacy will carry on the momentum generated by "Vector."(...)"

Special thanks to our friends at Fan Force Portugal for the news! Be sure to read the entire interview for more great information!
