The Kubaz spy who, while in the service of the Empire tailed Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2-D2, and C-3PO throughout Mos Eisley, until he discovered their plans to rendezvous with Han Solo. Garindan is one of Tatooine’s most accomplished information brokers and has earned a fortune spying for the Empire and Jabba the Hutt. Befitting a spy, his life is shrouded in mystery. No one knows where he lives, how he spends his money, or when he will surface again.

As with all other members of his species, Garindan sports a long, prehensile trunk, which has earned him the nickname of "Long Snoot" among Mos Eisley locals. His he eyes are highly sensitive to red wavelengths of light, and therefore Garindan wears a pair of dark glasses while traveling abroad on Tatooine. He also frequently dons a large, hooded robe that covers his bristly head and partially conceals his face. The spy was born on the Kubaz homeworld of Kubindi, and he is extremely fond of eating insects. Unlike many other Kubaz, who are generally cultured creatures with a great appreciation for art, music, and literature, Garindan is greedy and immoral.

While it is unknown how or when Garindan arrived in Mos Eisley, it is known that he is closely allied with Imperial forces. Rumors even claim that he possesses a special comlink providing a direct link to Prefect Talmont, the most important Imperial official on Tatooine. There are also legends suggesting that Garindan is incredibly wealthy. Despite his mysterious ways and great skill as a spy, however, Garindan is a notorious coward and will not hesitate to flee from a conflict. He does carry a blaster pistol under his robes, but he has never been forced to use the weapon in combat.
