An ill-tempered bounty hunter with a grudge against Han Solo. Dengar was a professional swoop jockey on the fast track to fame and fortune, until he challenged Solo to a race. During the contest, Dengar crashed into Han’s swoop and was grievously injured. The Empire repaired Dengar, transforming him into an unfeeling assassin in the process. When he heard of the immense bounty Jabba the Hutt had placed on Solo’s head, Dengar vowed to corner his old nemesis. Although he has failed time and again, Dengar remains obsessed.

Dengar’s near fatal swoop crash occurred in the crystal swamps of Agrilat, where he foolishly went head-to-head with Han Solo. As they neared the finish line, Dengar lost sight of Solo, who was just above him. Dengar foolishly pulled up and collided with the main fin on Han’s swoop. The accident left Dengar with a severe head trauma, massive scarring, and a reputation as a reckless racer. He was ejected from the professional swoop-racing league and became a bitter, hateful man. He blamed Solo for all his suffering and vowed to exact his revenge.

Dengar wandered the galaxy for a short time, but soon found himself in the employ of the Empire. Imperial forces completely rebuilt Dengar, removing his hypothalamus and replacing it with circuitry. Dengar was also repeatedly injected with drugs to enhance his memory, although the injections left him plagued by hallucinations. Regardless, he became a skilled assassin who served the Empire faithfully until he was ordered to kill the holy children of Asrat. When Dengar refused to commit this atrocity, he was expelled from the Imperial service. To support himself, he quickly became a freelance bounty hunter. His early assignments are undocumented, but it is known that he once tried to kill Jabba the Hutt. Eventually he discovered the bounty placed on Han Solo’s head and rushed to find his nemesis. He missed his opportunity to capture Solo on several occasions and finally lost his quarry with Boba Fett, who captured Han on Cloud City.

After Jabba the Hutt’s death, Dengar visited the site of the crime lord’s demise to search for his bloated body. Instead he found Boba Fett near the edge of the Great Pit of Carkoon. Fett had just escaped the gut of the voracious Sarlacc and was grievously injured, but Dengar managed to nurse him back to health. Since this encounter, the two have joined forces on numerous occasions in their continued pursuit of Han Solo and his allies. Between missions, Dengar has found the time to marry Manarro, a technological empath who has managed to partially restore many of Dengar’s emotions.
