Galactic Voyage Featured Fanatic!

Name: Sean Lopez

Are you a regular at Galactic Voyage and if not, how did you hear about the Galactic Fanatic?

I am a semi-regular visitor of GV.

How did you get involved with Star Wars?

I first saw the complete trilogy in 1995 on the Sci-Fi channel. That Christmas, I received the THX versions of the Classic Trilogy, along with an electronic Millenium Falcon and some other SW toys. From then on, it's been like a freight train, and now I estimate that over 95% of my room is full of SW stuff.

Which Star Wars movie is your favorite and why?

"The Empire Strikes Back". Hands down, no question, end of story. "Empire" introduced Yoda, my favorite SW character, and was just, in my opinion, the movie that truly defined Star Wars. We learned about the Force, we floored it through an asteroid field, we battled gigantic walkers on Hoth, and we confronted our deepest fears. "Empire" is, in fact, my favorite movie of all time.

Which group are you the biggest fan of (Sith, Jedi, Bounty Hunters, etc.) and why?

I am the biggest fan of Smugglers, mainly because they remind me of the heroes in old westerns. The scene in ANH (not the Special Edition) where Solo shot Greedo through the table was awesome! I can't understand why Lucas felt he had to change it. Also, smugglers have to be sly, quick-thinkers, who fly into asteroid fields at full speed, trusting themselves and their piloting abilites to get them out alive. Jedi don't do that; they have the Force to protect them. Bounty Hunters don't do that; they rarely put themselves in such danger. All smugglers in the SW universe are truly remarkable characters.

What are your most treasured Star Wars items?

My most treasured item is an original 1980 ESB poster, with a huge Vader helmet superimposed on a starfield. It was one of the first items I added to my collection, and it hangs on my wall to this day. Another of my most treasured items is my complete set of Special Edition movie posters that I got in 1997 with a mail-away Pepsi promotion (at least I think it was Pepsi).

What is your greatest Star Wars moment? (Ex. First in line to see Star Wars, Had lunch with Carrie Fisher, etc.)

My greatest SW moment was seeing "A New Hope: Special Edition" on the big screen opening weekend. It was my first time seeing a SW in theatres, and I was totally blown away.

What other hobbies or Star Wars facts would you like to tell us about?

I enjoy computer games, reading books, weightlifting, bicycling, and playing with SW action figures.
