"Mace's Mauling"
I guess this one is appropriate to follow the previous P.B.N in this series because it too has speculative Clone Troopers in it. Well that's what I was going to say but I see that P.B.N 24 is the one with the troopers in it (not the previous P.B.N 25), so I won't. The Clone Troopers lead in design was taken from Guy
Lagacé's renderings that was used in #24.
1. This photo of Mace Windu is I think from a scan of a French magazine and is what inspired this painting.
2. The figure of Obi-Wan under the number two is the pose he was based on in the painting.
3. Is Anakin's head. This is in the horizontal reverse position from it's origin.
4. These are a series of sketches tried for the composition. If I remember I was looking at Ralph McQuarrie's sketches of Bespin in the Art of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back book at the time. In the end I used a more simplified building.
5. There are a few more sketches than usual with this painting, mainly because the design of the Clone Troopers got me interested and you can see some of the variations here.
6. Is as usual the finished painting. It's not a particularly good painting but it works okay. The green from Obi-Wan's saber isn't true to reality because of my scanner's dislike of green. Because of that I usually have to
re-color the greens on the PC to make them look something like the originals. Please ignore the fact that a scene like this didn't happen
until Episode III, not II which is what this painting was done as, because I have no idea of what I'm doing. I essentially paint what ideas come to me with the visual information at hand at that point, which usually wasn't much.
