"Jedi Jitters"
This is another old one from the early days of production of Episode II when I didn't have
allot of visual information to work with. It's a speculative rendition of the action on Geonosis.
1. We have the idea for the painting. It's a bit too 'widescreen' for the paper dimensions, so some
maneuvering of the elements was needed to make things work better. If I remember I couldn't find any photo references even close to the poses for the Jedi that I wanted, so I needed to change them.
2. Is the next sketch done, pretty much as the painting will be. Dooku and Jango haven't changed much - just refined - but the Jedi have changed
allot due to the photos used to base them on.
3&3a. Are the photos used for the Jedi. Both are from Episode I and both have been flipped horizontally to suit the composition.
4&4a. These are pretty much what I had to base the Geonosis landscape on at the time. They look to be screen-caps from the web documentaries, which I didn't have access to then, so where I found them I couldn't tell
you. There wasn't much to work with on the Jedi Starfighter either but I found a few images to fill in the gaps with.
5. Might well be the inspiration for the Jango pose but I can't be sure from this distance. This was used for another painting so it probably was also used for this one as reference.
6. Is the end point of the painting. At the time I thought the Jedi and the Starfighter had too many sloppy parts in them, and hence didn't like the painting that much. Looking now, overall it seems to work okay. It's got a nice gloomy lighting effect and has a tense feel as well. Obi-Wan's lightsaber is green only because it wasn't clear at the time what
color it was to be.
