U-3PO was a silver-plated protocol droid that served the Royal House of Alderaan for many years. U-3PO was captured, and reprogrammed by the Empire for espionage purposes. As an Imperial spy, U-3PO was inserted into the Tantive IV's droid pool during the subjugation of Ralltiir. U-3PO later transmitted a S-thread signal to the Empire as the protocol droid gave away the ship's location to Darth Vader, who then captured the Tantive IV. U-3PO was with Leia Organa on the Tantive IV when it was attacked by the Star Destroyer Devastator.
