Commander Praji is an Imperial Naval officer that was trained at the Imperial Naval Academy on Carida, and received high honors at his graduation. He was placed as Darth Vader's aide on the Star Destroyer Devastator, where he was in charge of recovering the plans to the first Death Star from the Tantive IV. By Vader's order, he personally supervised the search for the Death Star's missing plans on Tatooine and sent a detachment of stormtroopers down to the surface to recover them. However, he sent his subordinate, Captain Kosh, to lead the detachment. He notified Vader of the lifeless escape pod used by R2-D2 and C-3PO.

The wealthy Praji family were established on Coruscant long before the rise of the Galactic Empire. The Prajis were the founding family of one of the Core Worlds, although why they left that world for Coruscant is not known. They were the majority shareholders of the Bank of the Core, and held great influence on the Capitol. Many of its members used that money and influence to enter into the higher-levels of the Republican and Imperial governments. The family donated a genetic template for the Imperial stormtrooper development program.
