A Captain in the Imperial Navy, Needa was one of Ozzel's closest advisors in the Imperial fleet. Needa was promoted to the command of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Avenger, and was part of Darth Vader's fleet that attacked Hoth. Following Ozzel's inability to follow instructions at the Battle of Hoth, Needa was directed by Darth Vader to follow the Millennium Falcon into the Hoth asteroid belt. When Han Solo's ship escaped, Lorth Needa decided he had to personally apologize to Vader. The apology was accepted, but Needa's failure to capture the Falcon resulted in his execution at the hands of Vader.
