Star Wars
Weekends Logo |
Each year, Mickey seems to take on
a different role in the official Star Wars Weekends logo. This year,
his imagination takes him to the Forest Moon of Endor, where he is seen zipping
away from scout troopers with Chip and Dale. Mickey’s wild speeder bike ride on
this year’s artwork has historical significance, as 2013 marks the 30th
anniversary of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi — the
film that featured the Battle of Endor. Star Wars Weekends takes place
at Disney’s Hollywood Studios every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 17-June
9, 2013. Be sure to read the entire article at the Official Star Wars Blog.

TV Line has an article that mentions Dave Filoni will be
working towards a new show. At a Tuesday upfront presentation, it was announced
that Disney Channel will air new Mickey Mouse shorts starting June 28 (a
sneak peek is posted to Disney.com) and that the TV-movie Phineas and Ferb:
Mission Marvel — in which Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s latest “-inator” strips
Spider-Man, Hulk and others of their powers — will debut this summer. Disney
Channels Worldwide boss Gary Marsh also said the company is “working closely
with Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy and director Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The
Clone Wars) to explore new Star Wars content for our platforms,”
to be detailed later this year. Be sure to read the entire article.

Daily Video Clip
#4 |
Today's fourth video clip is some
gameplay footage to the Star Wars: First Assault. In this clip, you can see
stormtroopers and rebels battling across various Star Wars locales, like the
desert planet Tatooine. It's very reminiscent of multiplayer mode in a
first-person shooter like Call of Duty or Battlefield or Lucas' own Star Wars:
Battlefront.
The video shows action in both first- and third-person. We
don't know if that's a third-person mode or just clips from a replay (or footage
designed specifically for this trailer). You can also see some of the game's
guns, attacks, and special abilities. Enjoy it while it lasts!

The Clone Wars Is
Officially Over |
The Official Star Wars site has announced the future of The Clone
Wars TV series and the animated comedic series Star Wars: Detours:
As we
enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm
has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring
a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star
Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months
to come.
As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions
affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.
After five
highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars,
we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer
producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we're continuing production on new
Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures
ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this
bonus content. In the video below, Supervising Director Dave Filoni offers a
peek of what is to come in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
At Star Wars
Celebration VI last year, George Lucas gave fans a glimpse at the animated
comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd
Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward
with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has
reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode
VII makes sense. As a result, we've decided to postpone the release of Detours
until a later date.
We are incredibly proud of the teams at Lucasfilm
Animation for creating some of the most amazing animation ever produced for TV.
Keep checking StarWars.com for new developments on these and future projects.
I want to take the opportunity to thank Dave Filoni, the cast, crew, and all
the staff at Lucasfilm Animation for their amazing work on The Clone Wars. I
hope that however they wrap up the remaining episodes of The Clone Wars, that we
may ultimately know the fates of Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, Darth Maul, Asajj
Ventress and many others.
As one door closes and another door opens. I
hope that in the very near future it will be possible for us to continue to have
more fantastic Star Wars on TV!
Rest in peace Clone Wars!

Star Wars: First
Assault Update |
Kotaku finally has an article about the new game title Star
Wars: First Assault. Kotaku can reveal that Star Wars: First Assault is a
downloadable multiplayer shooter that was originally slated for release this
spring. The game supports up to 16 players—one eight-person team of rebels and
one eight-person team of Stormtroopers—as they face off on Star Wars worlds like
Bespin and Tatooine.
And according to one person familiar with the
project, First Assault is "step zero" to the heavily-rumored, highly-anticipated
Star Wars: Battlefront III. If First Assault sells well—assuming it is released
at all—the third Battlefront could be next.
This game is a downloadable
"predecessor" to Battlefront III—part of the studio's strategy to show that
there's a market for Star Wars shooters running on the Unreal Engine.
The
story of Star Wars: Battlefront III is long and well-documented. Commissioned as
the third game in the Battlefront shooter series, Battlefront III has bounced
from developer to developer over the past few years. Although LucasArts has yet
to officially announce the game, leaked footage and images show what could have
been, and development studio Free Radical has claimed the game was 99% finished
when LucasArts killed it.
Star Wars: First Assault, our source says,
would lead up to Battlefront III. This new Battlefront would use nothing from
the Battlefront III that has already been in production at studios like Free
Radical and Slant Six, our source says. Instead, LucasArts would build
Battlefront III based on code from First Assault.
There are no vehicles
in First Assault, nor are there Jedi. LucasArts intentionally decided not to use
the Battlefront name so expectations wouldn't be too high, our source says. And
the game is almost done.
But Star Wars: First Assault may never actually
make it out of the studio.
The status of First Assault—like the status of
Star Wars 1313 and other projects that LucasArts is currently working on—remains
unclear today since the acquisition by Disney. Be sure to see the article.
