Star Wars:
Allegiance |
The Official Star
Wars Site has announced that author Timothy Zahn returns to the Star Wars
galaxy next year with his next book, Star Wars: Allegiance. Here's a first look
at its cover, by artist John Van Fleet.
In Star Wars: Allegiance, which
takes place during the time between Episodes IV and V, Luke Skywalker is still
new to all this Jedi business. Han Solo isn't sure how much he's willing to
commit to the Rebel Alliance. Princess Leia is trying to help run the Rebellion
and wondering why Han is so infuriating. The young Mara Jade is one of the most
valued agents of the evil Emperor. And a team of stormtroopers goes rogue,
deciding to mete out justice their own way...
Del Rey Books is scheduled
to publish this hardcover release on January 30, 2007. Keep checking
starwars.com for all the latest in book developments. |

ILM Parts with
Production Unit |
The Official Star Wars Site has
provided information about ILM and it's the end of an era in special
effects.
Seeking to shed the last vestiges of its origins as a
models-and-miniatures special effects house, Lucasfilm's Industrial Light &
Magic is in talks to sell its physical production unit.
Purchaser is Mark
Anderson, a model maker who has worked at ILM for more than 15
years.
Unit will be remonikered Kerner Optical, for its location in ILM's
former digs on Kerner Avenue in San Rafael, Calif., and will focus on all
physical production, including models, miniatures and stage work.
Once
spun off, Kerner Optical will aim to pick up the slack by seeking work that ILM
would not get. Kerner will become a preferred subcontractor for
ILM.
ILM's physical production unit never made the move to Lucasfilm's
new HQ at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco's
Presidio.
With the shift to digital effects, Lucasfilm has found it
difficult to keep that portion of the company fully employed.
At one
time, however, the unit defined ILM. The company grew from the team that created
the space battles and other movie magic for George Lucas' 1977 megahit "Star
Wars."
The goal, says a Lucasfilm spokesman, is for everything to remain
business as usual for employees.
Company informed its employees of the
move Tuesday, saying it hoped the deal would be finalized within 60 days.
Lucasfilm cautioned, however, that the announcement was made early in deference
to the unit's heritage and the longevity of its workers, and the deal has not
closed. |

More Fall 2006
Comics |
The Official Star Wars Site has provided a look at more Dark Horse
Comics for Star Wars fans this fall. The Star Wars Legacy series has just begun
this month, with an astonishing view of the future of the Star Wars universe.
Let's take a look even further, to issue #4, wherein a galaxy-shaking secret is
revealed in the heat of battle! Old friendships will be strained to the breaking
point, unlikely new alliances will be formed, and the relentless forces of evil
will pursue their dark ends with even greater vigor and purpose. In a universe
on the brink of either destruction or salvation, it is the actions of an
unexpected few that will determine the fates of all. The previously uncharted
future of Star Wars takes a surprising turn in this latest issue of
Legacy.
Star Wars Legacy #4 is scheduled for release on September 6, and
features the talents of John Ostrander, Jan Duursema, Dan Parsons, Brad Anderson
and a cover by Adam Hughes.
In the distant Star Wars past, the
"Flashpoint" storyline reaches its explosive conclusion as fugitive Padawan
Zayne Carrick and his unlikely shipmates from the Last Resort undertake their
most dangerous mission yet -- traveling deep inside Mandalorian space to rescue
one of their own! With a little help from the most unexpected of allies, Zayne
and the gang must find an isolated space outpost, once a Republic research
station, now in the hands of a Mandalorian scientist with wholly evil
intentions. To think they can pull this off with both themselves and their
friend intact, they'd have to be insane! Luckily they are!
Star Wars:
Knights of the Old Republic #9 is by John Jackson Miller, Dustin Weaver, Michael
Atiyeh with a cover by Brian Ching. It is scheduled for release on September
27.
In November, two very different Star Wars series are being put
together as separate trade paperback editions. First up is the infamous exploits
of everyone's favorite hapless pair of Rebels -- Tag and Bink -- are bundled in
a 104-page epic called Tage & Bink Were Here. Tag Greenley and Bink Otauna
find themselves tugged into major Star Wars events whether they like it or not.
Filled with a galaxy's worth of cameos, this series is written by Kevin Rubio,
with art by Lucas Marangon, colors by Michelle Madsen and Dan Jackson and comedy
by the freighter-full. It is due out on November 8.
Catch up on the first
story of the Knights of the Old Republic series, "Commencement," with the first
trade paperback. Set thousands of years before Luke Skywalker would destroy the
Death Star in that fateful battle above Yavin 4, one lone Padawan would become a
fugitive hunted by his own Masters, charged with murdering every one of his
fellow Jedi-in-training! Featuring the talents of John Jackson Miller, Brian
Ching, Travel Foreman, Michael Atiyeh and Travis Charest. This is due out on
November 22. |
