30th Anniversary Boxed Set Confirmed

TheDigitalBits.com has confirmed that the box set is coming! Here is what they said:

2007, as you may well be aware, is the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars' debut in theaters. You'd have to be stupid not to know that Lucasfilm is going to have big DVD release plans with which to celebrate the anniversary, and we've been telling you that was the case for many months now. Indeed, during our last visit to the Ranch for the DVD release of Episode III, producer Rick McCallum confirmed that a box set of all six films was going to happen eventually, and animation director Rob Coleman even let it slip that the puppet Yoda from Episode I had already been replaced with a new CG Yoda to match Episodes II & III for the "future" release. T-Bone over at Star Wars Universe recently speculated about this box set, and we've been quietly checking in with our industry sources on it as well. Well, we've confirmed it: There IS a big, ultimate, 6-film Star Wars anniversary DVD box set planned for 2007. There will be more changes to the films, and there will be LOTS of new, never-before-seen special features - all the good stuff that was held back by Lucasfilm from the original Trilogy DVD release a few years ago. Think deleted scenes and more. We don't know if good, genuinely-REMASTERED versions of the original theatrical editions of the films will be included or not (though how you could call the set "ultimate" without them, we don't know). We don't expect high-definition versions yet, as those formats are just too new. We don't have ANY other details for you yet, so please don't ask. But as you consider whether or not to purchase the "limited edition" DVDs due on 9/12... we thought you should know that more IS absolutely on the way next year. 'Nuff said for now.

As always, please keep in mind that titles discussed here are tentative and are subject to change until officially announced by the studios.

Stay tuned...

Well you have been e-mailing me and asking and I kept saying wait until next year. I was right! Now... Do you buy the latest releases on September 12th or wait until next year? Hummmm.

Featured Artist Craig Burt-Painting by Numbers 6

Featured Artist Craig Burt has sent in another breakdown of one of his paintings that provides us with a look into how the picture came about. Here is some of the article created by Craig:

111Final Fling progression.jpg (241929 bytes)
"Final Fling"

This one I would regard as one of the best of these Star Wars paintings I've done. That is probably because I managed to put in more effort to resolve it's problems and finished it to a higher degree than most. It doesn't have as much of the 'sketchy' quality that most of the others do, basically because they are more like sketches and quickly done. The painting is obviously of part of the final fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan from Episode III.

Be sure to read the rest of the article about "Final Fling" in the Painting by Numbers section. Thanks Craig for another great walkthrough of how this image came about! Enjoy!

LEGO Star Wars Humor

LucasArts has an interesting article about humor and video games. Funny thing about video games: for the most part, they just aren't very funny. In fact, many of the most popular games are virtually laugh free. But exceptions do exist -- like LucasArts' and TT Games' tongue-in-cheek look at your favorite galaxy far, far away in LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. Build, battle and laugh your way through the events of pop culture's most influential films this September 12 across eight platforms.

So, just what is it about LEGO Star Wars II that tickles your funny bone? "There are lots of things," says David Perkinson, producer at LucasArts. "But I think it all begins with the characters. Unless you've got the heart of the Emperor, you are going to chuckle at many of them the first time you see them -- you just have to. They're so darn cute!" Be sure to read the rest of this article!

Star Wars Bonus Disc Menus

The Official Star Wars Site has provided information about the Bonus Disc Menus for "Star Wars." Fans who grew up with the original trilogy and the poster campaigns that advertised them should enjoy the new menus devised for the bonus discs bundled with the original trilogy DVD singles being released on September 12.

New Wave Entertainment, who has developed a long-standing relationship with Lucasfilm on several Star Wars projects over the past decade, has created a series of stunning retro poster artwork menus for the original theatrical editions of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, all of which have been enhanced with animated movement and a three-dimensional look. Be sure to read the rest of this article and see pictures of the menus!
