Raxus Prime

Region:

Outer Rim

System:

Raxus

Climate: Temperate
Terrain: Industrial Metal Junkscape, Toxic Waste Pools

As commercial forces spread throughout the galaxy, consuming planetfuls of raw materials to support a modern Republic, many wasteland worlds were left in the wake. Raxus Prime, a world in the Outer Rim, is an example of a world forever poisoned by industry.

The surface of Raxus Prime is covered with refuse, piled over countless generations to rival the elevation of natural mountains. Numerous corporate interests have turned Raxus Prime into a dumping world. As the ancient maxim goes, one being's refuse is another's treasure: salvage operations dig through the planet-wide junkyard, looking to reclaim and recondition reusable or obsolete machinery.

The gutted and rotting hulls of ancient capital starships poke through the more recent garbage, giving the landscape the eerie feel of an industrial graveyard. Huge pools of toxic sludge make the ruined ecosystem one of the most dangerous in the galaxy. The planet's atmosphere is hot and caustic; the miasma of foul-smelling fog limits visibility. Beneath the layers of detritus, there exists evidence of a misguided attempt to colonize Raxus Prime: the innards of an extensive sewer system are the relic of an unknown species that attempted to drain and channel the pools of industrial waste.

Sienar Fleet Systems, a leading starship manufacturer, maintained a number of refinery and reclamation plants on Raxus Prime, which continued to belch poison into the air. A number of scavenger species frequent the world, with several transplanted Jawa clans calling the foreboding landscape home. The Meeknu clan of Jawas runs an extensive salvage operation on Raxus Prime. Also, Aach Een and his parents moved there from Iridonia.

Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma unleashed the Dark Reaper upon Republic troops here 3,996 years before the Battle of Yavin, during the Great Sith War. In a mysterious and unexplained turn of fate, the machine was apparently disabled by Ulic before it could begin its devastation. Despite its toxic environment, the planet was home to many ancient secrets, among which was the location of the Force Harvester, which was the power source for the long-dismantled Dark Reaper.

A few years after his leaving of the Jedi order, Count Dooku suddenly reappeared on the remote Outer Rim world, using a commandeered communications station to transmit his first fiery words of Separatist rhetoric. That transmission was well documented, and became the start of the Separatist movement that would eventually split the Republic. Dooku found the Harvester on Raxus Prime during the years shortly before the Clone Wars.

Raxus Prime was the site of a secret Confederacy base at the dawn of the Clone Wars. Separatist interests combed through the refuse to find hidden weaponry for use against the Republic. After a stunning upset by the new Republic clone army at Geonosis, Count Dooku retreated to Raxus Prime to continue the next phase of the Clone Wars, which resulted in a major battle on the wasteland world.

Dooku held Boba Fett prisoner there for a period following the death of his father. Republic forces attacked the planet 22 years before the Battle of Yavin, but Dooku was able to escape with the Force Harvester, and later used the device to wreak havoc for a short time afterwards. Following the Clone Wars, Darth Vader's secret apprentice visited the world.

25 years after the Battle of Yavin, Boba Fett returned to the planet to cull the weaklings from his new force of Mandalorian Protector Supercommandoes by pitting them against Han Solo, who was trapped there for a short period of time.
