One of the galaxy’s most notorious crime lords, who ruled a vast criminal empire from his desert palace on Tatooine. A grotesque, sluglike creature, Jabba was an unforgiving and sadistic being who hounded Han Solo for years after the smuggler abandoned a spice shipment. With the aid of Boba Fett, Jabba eventually acquired Solo, and went on to enslave Princess Leia when she attempted to rescue Han. However, the Hutt underestimated Leia, who strangled the disgusting gangster as the heroes escaped Jabba’s sail Barge.

The son of a major clan leader and member of a long line of criminal masterminds, Jabba aspired to become his father’s equal. Thus, by the time he was 600 years old, Jabba, whose Huttese name was Jabba Desilijic Ture, had forged a major criminal empire. With his vast wealth, Jabba moved from his father’s private estate on Nal Hutta to the desert planet Tatooine, where the obese crime lord built a palace around the ancient monastery of the B’omarr monks.

The decadence of Jabba’s palace soon attracted a huge number of immoral revelers, who flocked to the citadel for drink, food, entertainment and employment. Thieves, smugglers, assassins, spies, and all manner of criminals were constantly at Jabba’s side. As the Hutt’s court grew, so too did his criminal empire. Soon, he was involved in every manner of elicit enterprise throughout the Outer Rim, including smuggling, glitterstim spice dealing, slave trading, assassination, loan sharking, protection, and piracy.

During the course of his illegal dealings, Jabba hired a smuggler named Han Solo to transport glitterstim spice from mines below the Imperial Correction Facility on Kessel. However, when Solo jettisoned a glitterstim load to avoid Imperial entanglements, Jabba sent out several bounty hunters in search of the pilot. Solo killed Greedo, one of Jabba’s cronies, but could not escape the Hutt. Jabba confronted Solo on Tatooine, but ultimately allowed Han and his copilot, Chewbacca, to transport passenger to Alderaan in exchange for the proceeds from the charter. Solo never returned. Enraged, Jabba posted a huge reward for the smuggler’s death or capture.

Eventually, Boba Fett delivered Solo, encased in a block of carbonite but alive. Soon after, Han’s allies infiltrated Jabba’s palace to rescue the smuggler. Jabba captured Princess Leia and placed her in chains, ten tried to feed Luke Skywalker to his pet rancor, and later the Sarlacc. As he stood on the edge of the Great Pit of Carkoon, Luke used his Jedi powers to escape his fate and a fight erupted between the Rebels and Jabba’s men. During the fray Jabba met his end at Leia’s hands. Moments later, most of his court died horribly when Leia and Luke caused Jabba’s sail barge to explode. What remained of his fortune became the property of his father, who swore vengeance against Leia and her friends.
