CharactersImperial Royal Guard
Emperor Palpatines personal cadre of highly skilled stormtroopers, who served the evil despot as bodyguards, warriors, assassins, and executioners. Clad in crimson robes and sinister helmets, members of the Royal Guard were always at Palpatines side. They reported only to the Emperor and were fanatically loyal to his dark vision. The Royal Guard disappeared after the Emperors death, but many believe they are merely in hiding as they await a new master. Each member of the elite Royal Guard was personally selected from the ranks of only the most successful stormtroopers. Criteria for admission into the Imperial Royal Guard included great size, strength, and intelligence, along with an unwavering loyalty to the Empire. Despite their constant presence alongside the Emperor, very little is known about the workings of the Royal Guard. The unit was so secretive that suggestions as to its strength ranged from 50 to tens of thousands, although it was probably much closer to the lower figure. Only the Emperor knew of their various missions. Although trained in the use of a number of weapons, the royal Guard typically wielded two-meter force pikes. They also kept heavy blasters concealed beneath their robes and were masters of unarmed combat. The most elite members of the Royal Guard became Imperial Sovereign Protectors, who served as Palpatines personal bodyguards. At least one remained near the Emperor at all times. They also guarded the palaces and monasteries used by Palpatine, and protected his special clone vats on Byss. The Sovereign Protectors wore a more ceremonial version of the Royal Guards red armor and were taught minor dark-side techniques by senior Dark Side Adepts in the Emperors service.
